Caption Tool guide

How to make captions and translated subtitles with Baian

Upload your audio or video, choose the subtitle languages and download the finished SRT files for your editor or video platform.

1. Open Caption Tool

Sign in to the Baian platform or create an account, then choose Caption Tool. Start a new upload for your recording.

Open Caption Tool

2. Upload your recording

Add the audio or video file. Choose the language spoken in the recording, or automatic detection when that option is available. Wait for the file upload to finish before starting processing.

3. Choose your subtitle languages

Select the languages you want the finished subtitles in. The source-language list and the subtitle-language list are different, so check each separately.

Caption supports languages including Arabic, English, French, Spanish, Turkish and Urdu. Your account’s menus show the choices available to you.

4. Start processing

Start the job once the upload and language selection are complete. Baian transcribes the recording, translates it and runs its verification stages. The job’s status shows its progress.

If a job reports an error, keep the job details and contact Baian. Do not keep submitting the same recording while an earlier job is still processing.

5. Review and correct the subtitles

Open the completed job. “Review” shows the source captions next to each translation. Switch to “Edit” to change a line’s wording, then select “Save Changes”. Downloads use the saved text, so save before you download. “Revert” undoes a change you haven’t saved yet.

If you edit the source while “Propagate source edits” is ticked, saving also retranslates those lines in each subtitle language and replaces their current translations. Untick it to keep translations you corrected yourself.

Edits change the wording only. Each line keeps its start and end times, so if a line appears too early or too late, adjust its timing in your video editor after downloading.

6. Download the subtitles

Open the completed job and download the SRT for the language you need. Use “Download All (ZIP)” when you want the files together.

An SRT file contains subtitle text and timing. Import it into your video editor or upload it as a caption track on your video platform. It is a separate file, rather than text permanently burned into the video.
